It went better than I expected, I tried different things throughout the week.
The last one was the best. All projects where different; I was most surprised by Serena's performance - I liked that it was spontaneous, also Timo's.
It all turned out different than I thought and it was fun working together
It is difficult to see the whole programme; we were inside so that is hard to judge.
Renee: A public forum to test things out makes it real - a live test. I liked the evolution. You've said that you've learned a lot, maybe use those lessons to make a follow-up project. This project can be a step to new projects.

Timo

I think we should have started our promo earlier; it was difficult to work together AND work on our own projects.
Especially Thursday was very nice, with all of us together. I think I should have presented it more like a tool instead of a specific story. Now it was too open - in a more specific group of people it would work better. I need to strip it down and than invite a specific group to work with. Renee: look at the collective writing project "Wiki Novel" by Penguin Press. There are many flaws with the project, but it might help you think about your own guidlines. What you would and wouldn't wan't to happen. Riek: meeting people in the flesh could help. Leonie: yes, it is addictive!
Renee: When you told your story, you had a great sense of improvisation. Your voice and way of narrating worked very well in your performance... think of a way of using it in the future. Like coding and your computer, it too is a tool, a medium for your ideas.

I liked Thursday a lot; we got in to it - it was a good experience. Tuesday was a bit more rough. I was a bit disappointed by the web part of it. I tried to make something where people could pick from existing words; I was ill so I did not have enough time but I will finish it to. Femke: it could be closer (also visually) to the performance. I liked performing it.

Tuesday was messy; I thought the in-between time was too long. Serena: we said: now it comes, but than nothing happened. Renee: The gaps in the performance was okay. Yes, there were techical problems, but the chat worked as a side space, to meet other audience members. When you were working on your technical issues people in the chat started to talk to each other so it wasn't just read as silence.
Besides the network problems... Everyone: we liked the problems. Serena especially acknowledged that the whole project was about making the most of limits.
The first one did not go so well, it got cut at some point.
The whole project: I found a new way to do the same thing!

Serena

In the streaming week it was really about the flaws of the medium, to use these in your advantage. It helped to get the work into a more emotional / strong; more intense. Renee: It was great to see that when you get busy doing, you can make other kinds of decisions than you can when thinking about a project only in theoretical terms. In theory, everything is possible, but practice has a way of guiding you. . Dennis: I struggled with that! I got a bit lost in too many possibilities.
On Thursday I was embarrassed; I am not a performer I think. Riek: I think it really pushed you. Renee: when you work in a group you can improvise. It would be good to keep space for that. You're good at working on the fly.
Everyone put something into it. There was a pressure of the audience, a good tension. Timo: you don't know who is listening so you work harder! Renee: Yes, and it is interesting to think about how you can build an audience; this kind of broadcasts can help.

I'm very happy! I think a lot of things changed in the last weeks; I am a bit disappointed that there were not so many people from outside PZI - it has to do with how (and when) we announced it. Marc: It was the weather!
Sauli: the room was maybe not so inviting? Femke: it could be good to try out a space outside of PZI. Riek: would you want more designers? And how could you get them? Renee: staging is necessary to build audience.
Riek: the chat was tense! Marc: it could be nice to connect other cities. Timo: the chat went well... the scrolling back was a bit difficult. Serena: I think you succeeded in what you wanted. Renee: I felt almost like back in 1996... in the framing of your question you risk to affirm your own presumptions.
Femke: could you do a series of discussions after this, to work on each of the subjects in secondary chats?
Renee: I want to reiterate that my criticality is about the issues raised in the discussion, not your endeavours.

Stephanie

There is a polemic about what should be the next issue... Alexandre wants to redo the design. I don't want to; we need to stick with it... a bit. It is good not to force yourself not to start from scratch; we need to go further with what we started. Renee: Yes, that is difficult but maybe you need to think more about a kind of bricolage approach. You take what you have and build upon it or hack it apart here or there to add or adjust things. It could also be good to build on your chats, bring new people in to respond to what has been said and then ask your original people to comment on that response. It would be interesting to bring in people who are slightly outside of the discourse. Look critically at your questions and ask yourself whether they re-affirm your discourse by their very phrasing.

First day was very hectic; Friday went really smooth. Less cables.
I feel really lucky... I never thought it would work out like this. It is actually something different than I wanted. It turned out really well. It is hard to mess up Bach! It was nice. Riek: the choices you made were not by accident; it really was something special. Renee: it was randomized, a system of picking.
The website was organizing the piece, the way John Cage re-read Finnegans Wake through the I-Ching.
Timo: it sounded like the HTML started to interfere over the course of the piece.
Riek: what was nice to hear the dissonants come in. Renee: you need to know the piece to hear the disruptions.
It was a remix, defined by the NAI site. The conversion lead to a piece that had no pacing; I wanted something that made more sense... to listen to and to convert. Riek: what defines your choice? I discussed with the musician... but when I read about the unfinished piece... The process with the musician was sort of collaborative. Thanks also to Serena, for helping with the brochure!
